About Us

Lowe’s on Carter Street was born from a simple idea: great food and drink, served with genuine warmth, in the heart of Uttoxeter. We’re proud to be an independent restaurant and wine bar that puts people and community at the centre of everything we do.

George brings a wealth of experience from years working in hospitality, honing his skills in both kitchens and front-of-house before taking the leap to run a place of his own. His passion for food, wine, and service is the heartbeat of Lowe’s. Alongside him, the team share a commitment to making every guest feel welcome, whether you’re joining us for a relaxed lunch, a glass of wine, or a special celebration.

Our ethos is simple: thoughtful sourcing, honest cooking, and care in every detail. We work closely with local producers, reduce waste wherever we can, and invest in ourselves and our team so that we’re always growing and improving. From completing our WSET Level 2 wine training to refreshing our skills across the business, we believe learning never stops.

At Lowe’s, hospitality isn’t just what we do — it’s who we are. We want our guests to feel at home, our team to feel valued, and our town to feel proud of what we bring to the table.

Accessibility & Inclusivity

We want every guest to feel welcome at Lowe’s on Carter Street, and we’ll always do our best to make your visit as relaxed and enjoyable as possible.

Our building has its quirks and space can be a little tight, but our team is here to help wherever we can. If you have particular needs—whether that’s dietary requirements, seating preferences, or a little extra support—please let us know in advance so we can be ready for you.

Above all, we believe everyone deserves to feel at home when they dine with us, and we’ll always go the extra mile to make sure you do.

Our Commitment To Sustainability

We believe great food should do good too. Every choice we make, from the ingredients on your plate to the way we run our kitchen, is shaped by one idea: care for our community and the planet.

That’s why we work with local producers such as Dunwood Butchers, Sam’s Eggs, Green Door Bakery and our local honey suppliers. Sourcing locally cuts food miles and ensures everything we serve is fresh and full of flavour.

We also focus on reducing waste. Making most of our food in house means less packaging and fewer deliveries. Careful menu planning helps minimise waste, and we recycle everything we can, from glass and cardboard to kitchen oil.

Sustainability is also about people. Each year we provide free Christmas dinners, support the local food bank, and work with the Heath Community Centre. We run cooking classes for young people too, and one former student now trains in our kitchen and competes in global competitions.

Working With Us

At Lowe’s, our team is at the heart of everything we do. We believe in creating a place where people can grow, learn and feel valued. It’s one of the reasons we have one of the lowest staff turnover rates in the industry.

We offer opportunities to develop skills, from the kitchen to the front of house, and we’re proud to see team members progress in their careers. Some have started with us in a cooking class and are now competing at an international level.

If you’re passionate about great food, great service, and being part of a supportive team, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact us here.

Investing in Skills and Experiences

We’re committed to growing not only our business but also the knowledge and expertise within it. Over the past year, we’ve invested in training that strengthens what we offer our guests and helps us stand out as a restaurant and wine bar.

WSET Level 2 Achievement
Both of our directors have recently completed the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines. This training has deepened our understanding of wine and how it pairs with food, and it’s knowledge we’re excited to bring into the restaurant. From developing wine tasting evenings for guests to sharing insights with our team, this achievement means we can deliver a more engaging, confident and memorable wine experience.

We also believe it’s important to keep investing in ourselves and our team. Alongside our wine training, we’ve recently invested in areas such as photography, videography and PR, ensuring Lowe’s is always moving forward and giving our guests the very best.

Regenerative Tourism

At Lowe’s, we believe hospitality should have a positive impact on both people and place. We focus on reducing our footprint, supporting our community, and helping Staffordshire grow as a sustainable destination.

Our menus are seasonal and built around local produce from trusted suppliers like Dunwood Butchers, Sam’s Eggs, and Green Door Bakery. Most of our food is made in house — including handmade pasta — which allows us to reduce packaging and rely less on processed products. We use nose to tail and root to stem cooking wherever possible, meaning nearly every part of an ingredient is used. This helps us keep food waste incredibly low. We also recycle glass, cardboard, and oil through local schemes, and we are exploring composting with community partners. Local honey is also featured in seasonal dishes.

Each year, we provide 200 free Christmas meals to local families and work with schools, charities, and other organisations to deliver training and community events.

Regeneration is not just a concept to us — it’s part of how we cook, operate, and give back every day.

We Love Dogs!

We don’t just allow dogs — we encourage them. The front area of the restaurant is fully dog friendly, so feel free to bring your four-legged friends along. Just let us know when you book so we can reserve the right space and avoid any disappointment. In the summer months, the courtyard is also open and makes the perfect spot for you and your dog to relax together.
